- Children should be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
- Use a pencil to sketch out designs and erase them as you would on paper, pencil marks will burn off in the kiln.
- Apply
1 coat for a translucent finish, or 2-3 for a more solid colour. Allow
to dry between coats. The more evenly you apply the paint the more even
the finish once fired. Adding a small amount of water can help if the
paint seems to be going on too thick.
- Rinse and dry brushes between applying different colours.
- Paint colours can be mixed for new colours but it can be hard to judge the final fired colour.
- Layering paint colours can cause them to mix together when fired, but applying several coats of a colour will show over even the darkest bases.
- It is best to use black or dark colours for writing or defining details as they are stronger with a single coat.
- Mistakes can be carefully wiped away with a clean damp sponge or clean damn brush.
- Paint on the bottom of items may need to be removed before firing.
- Any unpainted areas will be a soft, gloss white once fired.
- Handprints: Use a soft brush to apply a good even coverage of paint to the palm and fingers. Gently press the palm and each finger in the desired position and carefully lift away. Footprints work best with very young children, use a similar method. Wash hands/feet immediately.
- All paints are water based and non-toxic but should not be consumed. Use a damp sponge to clean up and wash your hands.
